Family Court or Supreme Court?

In New York, a divorce can only be granted by the Supreme Court. In Suffolk County, matrimonial actions are heard in the Supreme Court at the Cohalan Court Complex in Central Islip, with some matters in Riverhead. Custody, visitation, support, paternity, and family offense petitions between parents who are not divorcing are heard in Suffolk County Family Court, which also sits in Central Islip. Many families have matters in both courts at once. The firm handles both and can help you decide which forum serves your goals.
